Extended Services E-News - January 2010
…congratulations to Sheffield’s complementary schools, which will be celebrating their Quality Framework achievements at a ceremony on 5 February 2010. Certificates will be given to the four Sheffield complementary schools that have successfully achieved the Bronze Award, namely Sheffield and District Chinese School, Sheffield Star Mandarin School, Club OK, and Polish Saturday School. Nick Clegg MP, the famously multi-lingual leader of the Liberal Democrats, is to come and present the awards.
The awards ceremony also provides a chance to thank all those who to date have worked so hard to institute the National Quality Framework Award Programme: Anita de Brouwer, Sheffield’s Study Support Co-ordinator, who has tirelessly secured funding for the project; and the two Quality Framework mentors, Jane O’Brien, the recently retired Languages Sheffield and Supplementary Schools Manager, and Ranjit Chakravorty, CYPD Supplementary Study Support/Volunteers Co-ordinator.

Dear Clusters Congratulations! The Our Languages project has received an award from the Institute of Linguists. November 09 the Institute of Linguists awarded the Threlford Cup to the Our Languages project. The Threlford Memorial Cup was originally presented by the founder of the Institute of Linguists, Sir Lacon Threlford. The prize is awarded on an annual basis for fostering the study of languages. The prize giving ceremony took place at the Oxford and Cambridge Club, Pall Mall in central London on Monday 9 November. The Royal Patron of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, Prince Michael of Kent GCVO presented the prizes. The three organisations were represented by Sarah Cartwright from CILT, Kelly Badwell form the NRC and Alice Harrison from SSAT. The work of the clusters was crucial in the success of this project so please feel free to refer to yourselves as “award winning” Many thanks and congratulations Alice Sophia Mousoulides Project Officer
